We awoke in Salzburg clear headed for once and set off in the direction of Munich, a leisurely drive up the autobahn which was just as well as the Haze was groaning more than a bevy of Latvian hookers. Diabolic roadworks and traffic jams completely dispelled the myth of the Teutonic efficiency of German engineering along the way.
We arrived in Munich just before lunch, so had a good look round the city centre before locating our campsite (yes campsite!) near the BeerFest site. Just before arriving there, with Seb driving, we were pulled by the Politzei. Taking one look at our beautiful piece of purple engineering hand built in Koln they started quizzing us about how much we had drunk and what different drugs we were carrying. Not believing us on either score they did a search of the car and breathalysed Seb before letting us on our way. They seemed most disappointed!
The campsite was a sight to behold and not in a good way, tents squashed together down muddy tracks, a shower block like something out of a horror movie and shop and bar stocking very little apart from overpriced beer. After a few of those and with the other Ramshacklers arriving we donned our full hippy/Hendrix regalia for the night's festivities at a local hostelry. With the beer coming in litre steins and some splendid roasted pig's trotters we were soon on our merry way to oblivion. This being the final night, various prizes were handed out to the survivors - We were successful in being unsuccessful. To top it all the evening was rounded off by one of the lads dressed as a Kenyan warrior setting fire to his grass skirt. Hilarious for us but not so for him, judging by the burns he was left with. We rolled back to a damp and freezing tent which was particularly uncomfortable for Seb as he had neglected to bring a sleeping bag!
The next morning we awoke a bit bleary eyed and muzzy headed knowing we had 700 miles to drive back to Calais. Seb was not in good form and after about half an hour we had to stop at the side of the autobahn whilst he threw up something liquid and purple - very in theme.
We made it back to Calais without major incident, rewarding ourselves with a hearty meal before getting the ferry back home. Car surprisingly intact, not so sure about either wallets or livers!
