Survived the Green Hell!

Last weekend's trip down to the Ring with Mrs M proved to be highly enjoyable and without major incident! Buttered up a nervous other half before hand with some wining and dining in Koblenz on Friday night to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Ended up of course in the inevitable Irish bar, which resulted in a somewhat muzzy head on Saturday morning. After a morning of shopping we headed to the Ring in the afternoon for a lap at a less than balls out pace in the capable RS4. Mrs M to her credit merely gripped the seat very hard and did not scream! The track itself was damp and pretty busy and some rear wheel drive cars were having a few traction issues.

After our lap we decamped to a local guesthouse for evening festivities. Sunday morning dawned much brighter and therefore the Ring was very busy. Usual massive array of exotica - Porsche GT2's and 3's. Nissan GTR's (seriously quick round the track) and the like being ten a penny. No other RS4's in sight though. Had to wait for the track to re-open when we arrived as a result of a UK Mini with 4 occupants rolling on its roof to much damage - At least one person being airlifted by helicopter to hospital. Of course, once reopened everyone went for it hell for leather. On our lap we saw another Mini lock the brakes and nearly lose it in front of us, but apart from that nothing too hairy. The RS4 took it all in its stride - not as fast as my old EVO FQ 330 by quite a margin, but fun nonetheless. Also the bulk of nearly 1,800kg is really felt in the corners where body roll is more than you would expect. Will be interesting to see the difference in the MX5 turbo when I take it there.

And oh yes the mpg of the second lap was just under 8!

The German autobahn on the way back gave a few opportunities to stretch the Audi's legs a little to a sensible 130 mph or so whilst Mrs M was having a little shut eye!
