Day 7 Austria to Prague

Thursday 11 September 2008 part two (what we can remember)

After our late afternoon snooze, we decided to fortify ourselves with a hearty good value meal in the hotel (beef Goulash and Dumplings, more of the latter were seen later..), complete with some decidedly local vino. Thus refreshed we headed for the fleshpots of central Prague, via a longer than expected walk.

We first had an obligatory look at St Wensclas Square, not too sure what all the fuss is about pretty plain and definitely not buzzing! Started our significantly lengthy bar-hopping tour at the very traditional... Rocky O Reilly's Irish Bar, with its exceptionally cute barmaids.

The second pint there was accompanied by the greenest and foulest shot of Absinthe to be had this side of a Moldovan cesspit, but it had a strangely fortifying effect too. Another bar or two and more Absinthe fortified us so much we felt like true English Lions ready for any challenge.

This was the excuse we gave anyway on finding ourselves enticed into the dimly lit Go Go Bar - a vast cavern of iniquity full of overweight German businessmen, scantily clad ladies of all ages, colours, shapes and sizes and a large pole dancing stage. We were roundly fleeced on entry and again for a round of drinks (tonics being the same price as the vodkas they went with). Further extensive wallet depletion would have undoubtedly have occurred had any of the girls enticed us away from the bar area to sit down with them and buy them dodgy 'Champagne'.

At this point I seemed to suffer one of those strange memory blackouts that occur from time to time when you are past 40 and it is past midnight, all I know is that by 2am we had escaped the clutches of the Go Go Bar and inhabitants and were safely ensconced in another quieter all night bar, of which Prague has many. From there we wound our way gradually home via a succession of bars, stopping to pay the usual homage to one of the Accounting World's finest firms:

In our last bar of the night (number 9) we had a few more drinks and played very poor table football until around 4.30am. Fell asleep without wasting time to undress. What a night!
