A leisurely start to the day at Les Senies. After checking the Beast over and administering some fluids (a bit like us the previous night), we ambled into the old city of Mirepoix for a coffee and cake in the historic old square.
By the time we had finished, the foul weather had improved somewhat so we drove out to the beautiful Chateau at Montsegur. This was one of the last bastions of the Cathar movement and is perched on the top of a very steep mountain.
We parked up and scrambled to the top and were rewarded not with a bar but at least with breathtaking panoramic views all around, including the bigger Pyrenees in the distance. We lunched al fresco near the village and our peasant bread and cheese was enlivened by two smiling sexy Spanish girls who parked up next to us - It must have been the lure of the v8 of the Beast that they could not resist.
We took a scenic route back to Les Senies, stopping off in the old town of Chalabre for an obligatory libation.
Later we popped back into Mirepoix for a three hour dinner at the Commerce, enjoying a rather nice bottle of Cotes De Buzet along the way. Once back, we made various preparations for our early start the next day - heading East along the Med coast towards Italy. With only 61 miles covered this would certainly be the least of any day of our trip!
